    8. Scores are taken into account during the college admission process.
    9. Scores may be used to determine the amount of merit-based financial aid that a college will award.
    10. The two most commonly required college entrance exams are the ACT® andSAT®.
    11. The more prepared you are, the better your chances will be of achieving a competitive score.
    12. Applying for Financial Aid

STEP 1 - Get Personal Identification Number (PIN)

A PIN is an electronic access code number that serves as your identifier for getting financial aid. Your PIN helps you to:

·                    Apply online for federal student aid, using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA ) on the web.
·                    "Sign" your application electronically and complete the student aid process totally online - no paper is involved. Signing the application at the time you apply means you’ll get your results faster.
·                    Make corrections to your FAFSA.
·                    Access your Student Aid Report (SAR) and make corrections to it.
·                    Access your federal student aid records online, including any federal student loan information.

You can get a PIN by accessing the web site www.pin.ed.gov at any time.  You should go through this process before completing the FAFSA.

When requesting a PIN, you must give your name (as it appears on your Social Security card), your Social Security number, date of birth, and mailing address. After that information has been matched with the Social Security Administration's records, a PIN will be given to you. You have the choice of receiving your PIN by e-mail or regular mail
2.             STEP 2 - Collect Information to Complete the FAFSA
A FAFSA is a long form that requests information that you’ll need to collect in advance. Here’s what you’ll need:
·                    Your social security number and your parents´ social security numbers
·                    Your driver´s license number if you have one
·                    Your Alien Registration Number if you are not a U.S. citizen
·                    Last year´s federal tax information or tax returns (including IRS W-2 information) for yourself and for your parents
·                    Records of untaxed income, such as Social Security benefits, welfare benefits for yourself, and your parents
·                    Information on savings, investments, and business and farm assets for yourself, and your parents.
3.  STEP 3 - Complete the FAFSA
There are two ways to fill out the FAFSA – on paper or on the Internet. To get the paper form, contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center. We recommend you complete the form online for the following reasons:
·                    The online FAFSA finds mistakes right away and lets you fix them.
·                    You get instructions for each question, and you can "chat" live for free with someone in customer service if you have further questions.
·                    The Department's Central Processing System will process your application quickly – in three to five days if you use an electronic signature.
4. STEP 4 - Learn About and Review Your Student Aid Report (SAR)
3.           STEP 5: Find and Apply for Scholarships & Grants
Now that you've completed the FAFSA and have your SAR, it's time to start applying for scholarships and grants. When you do so, go to the Financial Aid section of your portfolio to record the dates and actions you take.
There are many different ways to find scholarships and grants. Select any of the following:
·                    Apply for state scholarships
·                    Search a national database of scholarships and grants
·                    View financial aid availability at your favorite schools
·                    Find additional sources of financial aid
4.           STEP 6 - Follow Up With Your Colleges and Other Contributors
If you haven't heard from the schools to which you've applied for financial aid within four to six weeks of submitting your application, follow up with a phone call.
5.           STEP 7: Estimate Student Loan Debt and Payments
